For Donovan Smith, it started with an opportunity.

After attending a Euro-Grades Overseas Basketball Combine, Donovan earned a 2.8 Euro-Grade. Shortly afterward, he signed his first major European contract in Romania, opening the door to a professional career that has now taken him across Europe and Asia.

Today, Donovan has competed in Romania, Georgia, Cyprus, Austria, Azerbaijan, Kosovo, South Korea, and the Philippines, proving that one opportunity can change an entire career. From Euro-Grades to Romania: The Career Begins

Every overseas basketball player is searching for that first professional contract. Donovan Smith found his through exposure and performance.

Following the Euro-Grades Combine, Donovan signed with CSM Focșani 2007 in Romania’s Liga Națională, one of Eastern Europe’s respected professional leagues.

His rookie season exceeded expectations.

Year-by-Year Professional Growth

2017-2018 | Spain (LEB Silver)

After graduating from Quinnipiac University, Donovan began his professional career in Spain’s LEB Silver League. He averaged 12.0 points and 6.3 rebounds, while shooting 60% from the field, gaining valuable experience in European basketball. 

2019-2020 | Romania (Breakout Season)

Romania became the turning point.

Donovan continued proving himself with Olimpi Tbilisi, averaging 12.5 points and 6.2 rebounds while helping his club reach the Georgian Cup Final. 

2021-2022 | Cyprus

His production increased once again.

By this point, Donovan had established himself as one of the better American imports in Europe. 

2022-2023 | Austria

Playing for BC Raiffeisen Flyers Wels, Donovan enjoyed another outstanding season.

2023-2024 | Azerbaijan & Kosovo

Donovan competed in both the FIBA Europe Cup and domestic league play before finishing the season in Kosovo.

He helped capture the Balkan League Championship, adding another major accomplishment to his résumé. 

2024-2025 | Philippines & South Korea

Donovan reached another level offensively in the Philippine Basketball Association.
